Positive Behavioural Support (PBS)

Description
This course introduces learners to Positive Behavioural Support (PBS), a person-centred and evidence-based approach for supporting individuals who may display behaviours of concern. The course provides practical strategies to promote quality of life, reduce restrictive practices, and understand the causes of challenging behaviours. Learners will be equipped to apply PBS principles effectively within care homes, supported living and domiciliary care services.

Course Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Define Positive Behavioural Support and its key principles
Understand the relationship between behaviour, communication, and unmet needs
Recognise the factors contributing to behaviours of concern
Apply person-centred and proactive strategies to reduce the occurrence of behaviours of concern
Develop or contribute to PBS Plans
Promote rights-based, non-restrictive and least-restrictive practices
Understand the legal and ethical considerations linked to PBS
Reflect on their own role in promoting positive behaviour and reducing restrictive interventions
